The FIRST and most important thing that you will do with your job search is to write your resume. The resume is what will get you an interview so that you and sell your skill set to your prospective employer. A good resume will open up many opportunities for you and here are some tips to help you get that winning resume.
1) Make Sure You Have No Spelling or Grammatical Errors
This is an easy way to get your resume tossed in the trash, or deleted instantly. You are applying to work at a company and incorrect grammar and spelling shoes incompetence.
2) Sell Your Skill Set
Countries are looking for foreign workers because you posses a skill set that is in high demand. This is the reason they are soliciting foreign workers so list your degrees, certification and any certificates that you hold.
Also sell the benefits of your skill set. For example if you save the company $10,000 by automating a process, or increased sales with on of your programs list it!
3) Address the Employers’ Needs
Look through the job description and write your resume to fit the needs of the customer. Many recruiting offices use software to screen resume’s and look for key words in the description that are also written in the resume
4) Exclude Irrelevant Items
Exclude irrelevant items as this cause the reviewer to loose interest in your resume and it also takes up space you can use for other items.
5) Eliminate Excessive White Space
Excessive white space gives the impression that you haven’t accomplished a lot and that you will not be qualified for the job.
6) Don’t Lie!
This is also very important. Our skill set will be verified so do not lie about it to get a job. Your visa can be denied if you’re hired using false information on your resume.
7) Create Your Own Design
This means do NOT use the resume wizard from Microsoft Word. They are not original, have a lot of white space, sends the message that your are not creative and will just blend in with the rest. Instead use your creativity and design your own resume format. Whatever formats you use make sure that your name is at the top of the résumé and has the largest font size. You want your name to leave an impression.
8) Have Someone Proof Read Your Resume
It doesn’t matter how many times you look at your resume, you may miss something that someone else will notice. A second opinion could lead you to tweak something that gets you a call back.
9) List the Most Important Information First
Recruiters have many resumes to review thus spend little time on each one. Knowing this you should list the most important information at the top of your resume to catch the reader’s attention.
